Why I prefer not to work with local clients

Local clients are prone to saying things like:

“Why don’t you just swing by the office and we’ll [INSERT THING THAT COULD BE DONE MORE EFFICIENTLY VIA SKYPE]”

The temptation to causally request in-person “face time” is too great. Plus, Rhode Island is small. I don’t want to run into clients while I’m out to dinner with the family or gassing up the car in my karate uniform and flip flops.

Of course, these are personal reasons. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with having local clients as long as you don’t devalue your contributions by submitting to casual requests stemming from the convenience of proximity.
